Extra Credit for 2nd Quarter


Extra Credit Opportunities for Second Quarter





Bible- Say the
memory verse/scholar verse one or more days early.





Handwriting- Copy
a favorite Bible passage on one of the test pages. The passage must
be at least 25 words long and also must include the reference.





Language- for
5th grade, there will be some extra credit pages available
weekly. You may also recite the list of prepositions from memory for
me. An (extra) oral book report will also count for extra credit.


For 6th
grade- you will receive extra credit for turning in your library
research report early. You may also do an (extra) oral book report
for extra credit.





Math- for 5th
grade, any of the following pages: 321, 322, 324, 325, 328-332.


for 6th
grade, any of the following pages: 323-325, 329-332, 335-336,
339-340.





Spelling- write
extra spelling lists for me. Mark them as extra credit, so that I
don’t confuse them with your regular assigned work.





History- 1. do
an oral report/poster project about an important person or event in
American history. See me for topic approval. Your oral report must be
at least 2 minutes long, but can include pointing out features or
details of your poster.


2. Turn in the
completed Chapter Checkups prior to the chapter tests.





Science- 1.
Turn in the chapter checkups prior to the chapter tests. 2. Do a
biography of a famous scientist. (See me for the form you will need
and the list of scientists.)





Reading- Arrange
with me a time that you may read aloud a long passage in our novel. I
will grade on clarity and good use of expression. There will also be
extra credit questions in the comprehension section of the
worksheets.

Canadian Province Notebook


This project will start now and continue until the end of Christmas break. The students have chosen their province. The schedule for completion is attached. As the student completes each task, the schedule sheet will be initialed by the teacher. If a task is completed early, the student will receive extra credit points.

The student will need a three-ring binder and plastic page protectors. As the pages are finished, carefully tear them out of the workbook and place in the page protector. Put the pages in the correct order. For extra credit, a title page may be created highlighting the name of the province and placed on the front cover of the binder (if the binder has a clear plastic “sleeve” on the front cover).

Students should keep track of the sources (encyclopedias, books, magazines, internet articles) they use in their research by using 3 by 5 cards. Page 7 of the first part of the notebook introduces how to do this. The information will be transcribed into the bibliography (one of the last pages to be finished). The 3 by 5 cards will also be used to record information needed for the reports.

Many of the pages will require pictures. You may use pictures from magazines or the Internet. If a student does not have Internet access at home or there is no printer at home, please contact me. I will try to help out. The student can make arrangements for me to print the pictures at home as a last resort. Research time in the computer lab will be put into the schedule. The computer lab’s printer is a black and white laser jet, so that is not optimal for the pictures. However, if a student is researching for a report, this would work.

I tried to allow extra time for the pages involving reports. The reports should be written in paragraphs. Use good topic sentences. Students may bring in their rough drafts for proofreading.

The December schedule may need to be modified, depending on the music program and its rehearsals. If any deadlines need to be changed, students will be notified as soon as possible. If there are any questions, my home phone number is: 770-1760.
