Class Notes from Mrs. Cardoza
5th / 6th Grade 8/28/2009
Getting the hang of it…
The students are becoming more accustomed to the new routine of the school year. In the coming week there will be several more quizzes and some of the first tests. Soon the whole array of school activities will kick into gear. While no one in the class signed up for Piano lessons, several have indicated interest in the Band and Orchestra programs. Please check the Friday envelope for the signup paperwork for that. The PCCA T-shirt design contest has started. (See the Update for the rules.)
Students will be able to demonstrate compassion (the first character virtue of the year) by adopting the Confidence Pregnancy Center in Salinas. Please see the details of this program in the Update.
The next PTF meeting will be Wednesday, September 16th at 6:30 p.m. The Fall Festival will be coming up soon. (October 10th) You will be receiving a phone call to enlist your help in putting on this family-friendly event.
Another thing that will be coming soon is Science Camp. I have received some of the applications, but will need the rest very soon. There is paperwork that I must complete about the class which must be submitted at least a month in advance. (…and that is closer than you think!) Please try to get it in to me next week.
Some of the students had trouble with the first spelling assignment which involved copying the words from the book for practice. Since they are copying, there should be no errors. It is important to practice the words correctly, so that those words will be spelled correctly on the test. My message to the class is--- do it right the first time and then you don’t have to do it over.
When I know the results from Friday morning, I will have some good news for many of the 5th and 6th graders. If they have completed all homework and had their homework sheet signed the first week and a half of school, they will be eligible for a free dress day. I will probably send out another e-mail to announce who received this and what the date will be.
